For Churches

Resourcing further education colleges, chaplains and churches to work in creative partnership

For Churches

If your local community is home to a further education college (i.e., a non-statutory provider of 14-19 education), if you are an education or chaplaincies officer for your denomination or involved in church-related youth or community work, we can support your work by:

  • Helping you develop and articulate Christian commitment to further education and lifelong learning as a sphere of ministry and service
  • Facilitating partnerships with further education/lifelong learning providers in areas of mutual interest
  • Acting as a forum for the region’s churches to become informed about further education and the churches’ work with the sector

West Midlands FE Chaplaincy Ambassador

Interested in opportunities to engage with your local college?  Based in Birmingham, Black Country, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire or Worcestershire?  WM FE Chaplaincy Ambassador Phil Metcalf is available to support conversations between colleges and local churches/faith communities about partnership.  You can contact Phil at: phil.metcalf[at]blueyonder.co.uk.  This is a three year initiative, beginning January 2018, jointly funded and supported by the Anglican Dioceses of Coventry and Lichfield, the Heart of England Baptist Association, WM Synod of the URC and St Peter’s Saltley Trust, with support from the West Midlands Churches’ FE Council.

Working with your Local College: a Workshop for Local Churches

Does your church or group of churches neighbour a further education college, and you’d like to know how to relate to it better?  Members of WM Churches’ FE Council are available to come and speak at church councils, circuit meetings, deanery chapters, ministers’ gatherings or similar.  We can brief you on the shape of the further education sector and opportunities to partner creatively with your local college.
